Dr Ingrid Bretherton

Dr Ingrid Bretherton completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 2010. She completed her specialist Endocrinology training at Austin Health and Monash Health and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2017. She went on to complete a PhD (The University of Melbourne) in 2021.

Dr Bretherton is a Consultant Endocrinologist and has appointments at Austin Health and works in private practice. She has an interest in all aspects of general endocrinology and diabetes and has a special interest in transgender health and treating endocrine issues during pregnancy. Dr Bretherton is a medical researcher at The University of Melbourne (Department of Medicine, Austin Health). She is currently investigating the effects of hormone therapy on bone health in trans and gender diverse adults.

She is the recipient of various awards including the Australian Postgraduate Award and Rowden White Scholarship (University of Melbourne), Endocrine Society Australia Travel Award, the US Endocrine Society Early Careers Forum Travel Award and was recently awarded the prestigious AMRF Bernie Sweet fellowship. She currently mentors medical students and Endocrinology advanced trainees has been an examiner at The University of Melbourne Medical School.

Outside of work she loves travelling, baking, and spending time with her husband and two young children.

Dr Bretherton is passionate about providing high quality health care to people from all walks of life. She takes a warm, compassionate and collaborative approach. She welcomes all general endocrinology referrals in adult patients.
